Propagation
This plant propagates by lateral shoots that appear on the mother plant. These can easily be removed and re-planted elsewhere in the substrate. Always take care not to crush the stem when re-planting as this will cause rot and the cutting will die off. In the wild it will produce flower stems that will produce seeds. The seeds are winged and are dispersed by the air currents.

This is a very fast growing plant that inhabits large areas of North America running right down to Central America. In its natural habitat it can be found growing submerged and partially submerged, it has no preference to either situation. Individual plants can vary a lot in appearance, some have broader leaves and even different shaped leaves.
