Food and feeding

Finger fish will accept any food offered. Use quality flake for their staple diet and supplement this with vegetable matter in the form of spinach, lettuce or peas. They will also nibble on any tender plants in the tank.

Origin

Africa, Asia, and Australia; adults will inhabit the coastal areas but juveniles will often be found in brackish water ways.

Sexing

There are no visible differences between the sexes.

Breeding

As of yet there are no reported cases of Monodactylus argenteus breeding in the aquarium.

Lifespan

The expected life span for Monodactylus argenteus is 10 years.

Short description

Often Finger fish are placed into fresh water tanks; they are much more at ease in brackish or saltwater conditions. The adults will spawn in freshwater rivers before returning to the saltwater coastal areas. Hiding places must be provided in the tank along with a good filtration system.
