0°C 32°F30°C 86°F

Recommended temperature: 22 - 26 °C (71.6 - 78.8°F)

Reproduction of the plant: Rhizome

Origin (in the wild): Africa

How fast these plants grow: Slow

Recommended substrate: Rocky

Demands on lighting: Subdued

Ideal placement in a fish tank: Middle

Lighting Requirements

Bolbitis heudelotii needs low to medium lighting.

Propagation

This Bolbitis is a very easy plant to propagate, since this species reproduces by rhizomes, simply divide one longer piece into two or three smaller ones. The new pieces will be separate plants and will grow as time goes by. As with other rhizome-reproducing aquarium plants, the rhizome shouldn’t be buried deep in the substrate as it will rot and the plant will die easily.

Difficulty

Medium requirements on care and nutriments.

Short Description

This plant belongs to the fern family and has beautiful transparent leaves. Even though it is a rhizome plant, they seem to do best when attached to a piece of wood or a rock and many keepers will use this method for growing them. Make sure that the plant is securely attached by using fishing line until it has become established. CO2 injection will speed up the growth rate.
