The Skinny on Wall Mounted Aquariums

Aquariums can be found in all shapes and sizes. For those of you who think you don’t have room in your home or office for an aquarium, but would love to have one, you should consider purchasing a wall mounted aquarium. Wall mounted aquariums take up no floor space, and are also a good way to keep children’s little fingers out of the tank. Wall mounted aquariums are also known as portrait or wall aquariums. Wall mounted aquariums come in a number of sizes, so you are sure to be able to find one to suit your needs. You can install your wall mounted aquarium yourself, just locate the wall studs and follow the included instructions.

Wall mounted aquariums have many benefits to offer that you cannot get from a traditional aquarium setup. They take up no floor space at all, so you don’t have to worry about moving things around to make room for your tank.

Design your room around your wall mounted aquarium. You can have your wall mounted aquarium built into your wall to act as a divider between two rooms, which allows you to view the aquarium from both sides, rather than one.

Usually, wall mounted fish tanks are hung at eye level, which makes it much easier to watch and enjoy your fish.

Many retailers offer wall mounted aquarium kits that come with the filters and lights needed for that specific tank. By having the equipment included with your purchase, it saves you time and money from having to try to find and pay for the equipment needed to setup your tank.

With traditional aquariums, you always have to worry about them being tipped over, especially if you have to place them in busy areas, Wall mounted aquariums save you that worry, so that you can relax, and enjoy showing off your fish in a lovely, safe tank.

As with anything, there are some disadvantages to have a wall mounted aquarium versus a regular fish tank. One such disadvantage is that if you purchase a fairly small wall mounted tank, your fish may not get the oxygen they need due to the reduced surface area limiting the amount of air flow through the tank.

When installing your aquarium, you need to make sure that your wall studs are able to withstand the weight of the filled tank with all equipment installed. Even the smallest size wall mounted aquarium can weigh around seventy-five pounds when full of water and not all wall studs can accommodate this weight. Some of the larger wall mounted aquariums can weigh up to three hundred pounds.

Wall mounted aquariums can be quite expensive, especially when compared to regular tanks. They should be considered an investment, such as an expensive piece of artwork, or other decorative piece.

Your selection of fish may be limited depending on the space you have available inside your wall mounted tank. Some of them do not have the thickness to accommodate large species of fish, so take that into account when making your decision. Many wall mounted aquariums are about the same thickness as a plasma television, but can be built to your specifications. You just need to be aware of the space limitations when choosing your tank, and if you prefer to have larger fish, select a wall mounted aquarium that will allow sufficient space to accommodate their needs.

Depending on how they are designed, some wall mounted aquariums can make maintenance a challenge. Some are designed with cabinets above or below that you can use to make access easier. Keep that factor in mind when making your selection.

If you prefer to have all the work done by a professional, prepare to pay a little more out of pocket. The advantage if professional installation is that all the cables and equipment can be professionally hidden, and all the work done so that all you have to do is add your fish, plants, etc. You can do the work yourself, but would probably be better satisfied with a professional installation.

When deciding to make any big purchase, you should look at several different options, and weigh the pros and cons of each. There are numerous companies that have websites online devoted to selling wall mounted aquariums, many that offer options to custom build to your specifications. In the end, you will have added something to your home that will not only serve to give you hours of enjoyment, act as an interesting conversation piece, but will add value to your home as well.

Bayshore Aquarium usually always has the lowest price on wall mounted aquariums aka wall fish tanks. Love mine!

Spent some time on the bayshoreaquarium website. Then, I called them. They seem very knowledgeable about wall mounted aquariums, a variety of fish, and tips/tricks for simple and easy maintenance. Most of the people who buy wall mounted aquariums want simple and easy maintenance. Anyone who buys any aquarium (or any pet) needs to realize there is "SOME" time commitment involved. Feeding daily (or 5 times per week) and general housekeeping should be expected. One thing I will comment on is Bayshore seems the most knowledgeable and actually has customer service. Most retailers just sell this product and a thousand other products. I guess you get what you pay for - and, with Bayshore you get good service. I've also contacted ArtQuariums and a few local stores. These aren't for everyone, but if you want simple and easy they are about the only way to go - and, follow the directions!

I have been looking for an aquarium and have spent countless hours researching for a reputable company to buy a wall mount aquarium from. Most of the happy wall aquarium owners that I spoke to recommended a company Bayshore Aquarium. Of course I did more research on them by myself. I found out that their aquariums were originally created 15 years ago in Australia (creaters of wall aquariums). That gave me confidence in their quality and the stability of their company. I started to compare their prices to some of the discounters. I was shocked when their website price was lower than Amazon, Overstock & Sam’s Club. I called multiple times with various questions. If they didn’t answer my call, they always returned my calls promptly. I finally got two wall mounted aquariums from their website. When the wall aquariums arrived, I was shocked with everything that they sent me for free. They sent me an automatic feeder, filters, lights, fish net, scrubber, magnetic cleaner & more. After I had the wall aquariums installed, I took a step back and couldn’t believe how much they added to my rooms. They are so much more beautiful up front than from the pictures on their website. I get more compliments from these wall aquariums than from any other art decor I have in my home (I have really expensive taste). Their customer service was top-notch answering all of my questions. They are extremely knowledgeable with everything about fish. The quality of their aquarium was superb. I also LOVED THEIR PRICE with all the free stuff you get.

I bought my wall aquarium from a company named Aquavista. I compared it to the aquariums available from Bayshore, but I wanted something that was more advanced and came across the Aquavista Panoramic Wall Aquarium on Gizmodo. It is awesome so far. There is an automatic feeder built in and a neat computer on the unit. I looked at Bayshore and Artquarium, but no one called me back when I left them a message. Aquavista got back to me immediately. The Panoramic also seemed to have the most advanced set up too. They have a built in CO2 generator, which I don't use, but it's neat to be able to have live plants with it. They claim it is 15 minutes per month, but I'll believe it when I see it. So far though, it looks amazing and was exactly as advertised. From a value perspective, I thought it was the best.
