Information about care
Food
These carnivores prefer a diet of small insects, larvae and crustaceans. They will accept a variety of store bought foods in the aquarium but live, meaty foods should always be incorporated into their diet for maximum nutrition.

Sexing
The males of this species tend to be more colorful with longer flowing fins. They are slimmer and their stripes are usually not as apparent as females. Females exhibit more subdued colors and are slightly plumper.

Breeding
The Striped Panchax lays buoyant eggs that will remain among vegetation floating at the water’s surface. These eggs take approximately 2 weeks to hatch and the fry are big enough to consume newly hatched brine shrimp.

Lifespan
This killifish, unlike some of its relatives, have a long lifespan of up to 4 years. Since they inhabit waters that do not dry up seasonally, they do not die off each year.

Origin
These fish are native to India of South Asia.

Short Description
Striped Panchax fish are very helpful in controlling mosquito populations because they are surface feeders that like small meaty foods. This species is great for beginner aquarists because they are very hardy and not very particular on their water conditions.

I love this fish. It solved my snail problem almost immediatly, they eat snails like pac-man eats dots; thus keeping my tank free from the hundreds of small unisex snails.

I find that my specimen lives near the surface rather than mid level, stunning colours though!

This fish is amazing, it looks and behaves like a gar, and is not a fussy eater. I did not know that it also ate snails though.
