Food and feeding
Earth worms and fresh water shrimps will be accepted by this fish but they prefer live food. Many keepers will set up a live bearer tank to provide a supply of feeder fish.

Origin
South America; these fish are found in the Amazonian and Orinoco basins.

Sexing
There are no visible differences between the sexes.

Breeding
As of yet there are no reported cases of these breeding in the aquarium but it is known that in the wild they will breed like other characins.

Lifespan
The expected life span for this fish is 8-10 years.

Short description
A minimum tank size of 50 gallons is required for this fish, they need lots of space. A good filtration system will be required and provide open swimming spaces but the addition of some plants will be beneficial. The Red Tail Barracuda is a nervous fish and is easily frightened.
