Information about care
Food and feeding
Quality flake or small pellets should be used for the staple diet. The addition of live or frozen foods is a must with these fish. Feed them on brine shrimp, blood worms, and white worms to keep them in top condition.

Origin
South America; they are to be found in the waterways of Colombia.

Sexing
Males tend to be slightly larger than females and will display more colouration. The will also have extended dorsal and anal fins.

Breeding
Provide spawning sites in the form of small caves or upturned plant pots. The female will enter the site and lay her eggs on the roof of the cave time. The male will defend the territory and after a period of 7-8 days the female should release the fry into the tank. Both parents will look after the brood and the fry can be fed on newly hatched brine shrimp.

Lifespan
The expected life span for this fish is 3-5 years.

Short description
Provide these fish with a planted tank and perform small regular water changes as they can be sensitive to large water changes. They are a peaceful species but may show some aggression during spawning periods.
