Information about care
Food and feeding
Pearl Danio will accept all foods offered, their main diet should be flaked foods with treats of Tubifex, Brine shrimp and Daphnia.

Origin
These fish originate from Burma, Sumatra, and Thailand.

Sexing
The males tend to be smaller with a slimmer body shape.

Breeding
The breeding tank should be set up with a shallow water line (6 inches is ideal), and marbles should be used for the substrate to allow the eggs to fall through. Fine leaved plants should also be added to the tank. They have been known to spawn as a group rather than pairs so add twice as many males as females to induce this. Remove the parents once all the eggs have been laid as they are prone to eat the eggs. Keep the tank in darkness until all the eggs have hatched.

Lifespan
Given the correct conditions these fish should live for up to 5 years.

Short description
The pearl Danio needs to kept in groups of at least 4 fish. They are very peaceful, so make a good addition to the community tank. The tank should be well covered as they are prone to jumping out of the water.

The first time I bought a pearl danio in my 30 gallon hexagon tank, I had goldfish with shredded fins within 24 hours. So I got rid of the danio.

Five years later, I decided to try again and bought another pearl danio for the same tank, this time with 3 buenos airies tetras. So far, the danio keeps to himself and swims near the surface, dodging through my floating plastic plants. He is a joy and I think I’ll go to Petsmart tonight and get 4 or 5 more.

I believe the pearl danio tend to be a little agressive. In their description it says peaceful, but they seem to be little buggers most of the time. I have a tank with 2 albino pearlscale angels, 2 pictus catfish and 2 pearl danio. They all seem to get along nicely but the danio seem to be little trouble makers a lot of the time.
