Information about care
Food and feeding
These fish appreciate feeds of live or frozen foods with the odd meal of quality flake or small pellets. They relish blood worm and brine shrimp but be careful not to overfeed as they demand high water quality.

Origin
South America, they are found in the water ways of Peru.

Sexing
The males are larger than the females and will have extended finnage. The males will also display much more colouration than the females.

Breeding
This species of Apistogrammas has not bred in the aquarium as of yet but in the wild they are cave spawners. The female will defend the nest and the male will mate with several females at any one time. The fry are exceptionally small when they hatch and will feed on Infusoria or algae once they are free swimming.

Lifespan
The expected life span for this fish is 5-6 years.

Short description
This Apistogrammas requires the same tank set up as all other dwarf cichlids. They require hiding places in the form of rocks or wood and lots of plants in the tank. A darker substrate seems to bring their colouration out better and add floating plants to subdue the lighting.
