Origin
South America; Miguelito corydoras are to be found in the waterways of Peru.
Sexing
When viewed from above the females will be larger and stockier in their body shape than the males.
Breeding
It is best to add a group of Corydoras virginiae to a tank with a shallow water level. Condition the fish with plenty of live or frozen foods and the occasional meal of flake food. To trigger spawning add cooler water on the changes but it may take them a couple of weeks before they decide to spawn. The eggs should hatch after 24-36 hours and the fry when free swimming can be fed on newly hatched brine shrimp.
Lifespan
The expected life span for Corydoras virginiae is 3-5 years.
Short description
Miguelito corydoras are one of the hardier species of Corydoras and can compete with larger tank mates for food. They should be kept in small groups of at least 6 specimens and provide plenty of hiding places for them by adding rocks or plants to the tank. Also known as Virginia’s Catfish.
