Food and feeding
These fish will accept all foods offered, but when adults will not be so active in the daytime as juveniles. To ensure they get their fair share of food, provide a meal after lights out. Use pellets or algae wafers and treats of blood worms.

Origin
South America; these fish are found in the waterways of Brazil, Guyana, Peru, and Bolivia.

Sexing
If viewed from above, the males will have a more slender body shape. The females will have a white belly, while the males will have a freckled belly.

Breeding
As of yet, there are no reported cases of these fish breeding in the aquarium, it is believed in the wild to be a bubble nest builder with the male performing the parental care.

Lifespan
The expected life span for this fish is 8-12 years.

Short description
Provide hiding places in the tank with rocks or wood as these fish like to hide away in the daytime. They will not harm plants and are classed as a peaceful species.
