Food and feeding

Longsnout distichodus will only accept vegetable matter in its diet. Greens like lettuce, spinach and water cress will be accepted but blanch slightly before feeding to the fish. It is rare for them to accept commercial foods.

Origin

Africa; Longsnout distichodus are to be round in the River Congo basins of Angola and Cameroon.

Sexing

There are no visible differences between the sexes.

Breeding

As of yet, there are no reported cases of Longsnout distichodus breeding in the aquarium.

Lifespan

The expected life span for Distichodus lusosso is 9-12 years.

Short description

Distichodus lusosso has a reputation as an excellent jumper so always use a tight fitting lid on the tank. Any plants added to the tank will be eaten and due to their large adult size, they should be housed in a tank that measures at 60 inches in length. Add rocks or driftwood for décor and either sand or gravel can be used for the substrate.
