South America; they are found in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.

Propagation
These are a very easy plant to propagate.Simply take cuttings from the mother plant and remove the bottom leaves from the cutting. Carefully place the cutting into the substrate taking care not to crush the stem and this should then form roots and grow into a new plant.

Difficulty
Easy if given the correct lighting levels.

Short Description
This has to be one of the most well known plants available for the aquarium. They are just as happy in a coldwater tank as being in a tropical tank. It is believed that they secrete a chemical which suppresses algal growth and they also serve to make a beautiful backdrop to the tank. In some areas they have been banned from sale as they are very invasive, taking over areas of water ways and choking the local flora in the process.
