Food and feeding

In true cichlid fashion, Bolivian cichlids are not fussy eaters. Use a quality flake or cichlid pellet for the staple diet and offer them treats of chopped cockles or mussels, blood worms and chopped shrimps for treats.

Origin

South America; Bolivian cichlids are to be found in the waterways of Bolivia and Peru.

Sexing

Males will be slightly larger and more colourful than the females; they will also have extended dorsal and anal fins.

Breeding

Bolivian cichlids are extremely difficult to breed in the aquarium; it is believed that they breed in a typical Cichlasoma fashion.

Lifespan

The expected life span of Cichlasoma boliviense is 5-8 years.

Short description

Cichlasoma boliviense prefer a tank with hiding places added but any plants in the tank are likely to be uprooted. Bolivian cichlids are not the most aggressive of the cichlids but they should only be kept with other cichlids of a similar size.
