Information about care
Food and feeding
These fish will accept quality flake and cichlid pellets. They should also be given treats of live or frozen foods in the form of bloodworms, chopped earthworms and brine shrimp.

Origin
Central America; they are to be found in Guatemala
and Mexico.

Sexing
Females will have a dark area on the dorsal fin; the males may have extended dorsal and anal fins.

Breeding
The parents will spawn in nests or pits created in the substrate. Both parents will take on the parental duties and after a few days the eggs should hatch. Once the fry are free swimming they can be fed on newly hatched brine shrimp.

Lifespan
The expected life span for this fish is 6 years.

Short description
These fish are classed as semi aggressive but should not be housed with more aggressive species. They require hiding places adding to the tank, these can be made from rocks or bogwood and regular water changes are required.
