Food and feeding

Origin
South America; the fish originates from the Orinoco delta but is found in rivers running from Venezuela down to Brazil.

There are no visible differences between the sexes.

Breeding
There are no reported cases of these breeding in the aquarium; wild specimens have been found with the female incubating the eggs stuck to her belly.

The expected life span for this fish is 10-15 years.

In the wild, these fish have been found in brackish waters. They are commonly known as Banjo catfish or eel tailed catfish for obvious reasons. Always provide hiding places in the aquariums for these as they tend to be nocturnal in their habits.
