Information about care
Food and feeding
This fish should accept all foods offered. Quality flake or cichlid pellets should provide the staple diet; treat 2-3 times per week with frozen or live foods like blood worms or brine shrimp.

Origin
South America; they are to be found in the Amazonian Basins.

Sexing
The adult males will be slightly larger than the females and have extended finnage.

Breeding
These fish are substrate spawners so provide some flat rocks for them to use as spawning sites. The parenting role will be undertaken by both parents and the eggs should hatch after 2-3 days, When the fry are free swimming they can be fed on newly hatched brine shrimp.

Lifespan
The expected life span for this fish is 6-8 years.

Short description
These fish need to be kept in soft, acidic water. They can be aggressive, especially at spawning times but kept with similar sized tank mates, this will not be a great problem.
