Food and feeding
A vegetable diet is best suited for this fish. Algae wafers, pellets and quality flake can be given. Spinach, peas, and spirulina will also benefit this fish.

Origin
South America; they are to be found in the basins of the River Amazon and the River Orinoco.

Sexing
Mature females tend to be plumper in body shape than the males.

Breeding
As of yet there are no reported cases of this fish breeding in the aquarium.

Lifespan
The expected life span for this fish is 5-8 years.

Short description
If any plants are added to the tank, this fish will eat them. Hardy plants like Java fern should survive but no delicate species. Branches or roots should be added to the tank to provide hiding places for the fish and soft, acidic water should be provided. They can be an aggressive species to only keep with tank mates that can look after themselves.
